Water Orchestra
Water Orchestra is an interactive installation that transforms the Dilworth Park fountain in Philadelphia into a giant, playful musical instrument, inviting visitors to take on the role of conductor in real-time.
From a dedicated podium, participants direct the water jets, rhythms, and musical sequences with simple movements. The experience is profoundly intuitive: broad, dynamic gestures produce powerful jets and energetic soundscapes, while more subtle and delicate movements bring forth soft melodies and muffled aquatic effects.
The installation has the advantage of working equally well both day and night. At night, the water jets can be illuminated and colored, harmonizing with the participant's performance.
This collective and captivating experience merges water, light, movement, and sound, turning the fountain into a stage and every visitor into a performer.
Presented from September 5 to October 3, 2025, the installation was highlighted by several special events, notably an opening night and a unique performance conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin, accompanied by musicians from The Philadelphia Orchestra.
